During the winter time, an extra amount of kapha dosha is accumulated in the form of stomach phlegm which nourishes microbes, bacteria and viruses that weaken the immune system. The flu epidemics in spring that result in colds, bronchitis and upper and lower respiratory tract diseases, are the consequence thereof.
Spring season brings also pollen allergies lasting into the early autumn. Different kinds of food allergies are common too, causing irritation of the large intestinal mucosa. Most frequent is the gluten and lactose intolerance. The food allergies are most often manifested as skin eczema or urticaria and are usually interrelated with the pollen allergies.
As a result of toxin accumulation in the bodily tissues, free radicals are produced causing degenerative process of ageing, slowing down the metabolism, developing allergies, damaging intestinal mucosa and bringing about constipation. Psychological toxins reside in the liver and gallbladder and cause negative emotions, such as nervousness, anger, animosity, fear, anxiety and insecurity.
Various manifestations of contamination
The presence of excessive amount of toxins in the body can be recognised according to the following symptoms: low energy, feeling of heaviness, lethargy, fatigue, weakness, depression, headache, restlessness, agitation, lack of concentration, digestive and gastrointestinal disorders.

Fasting for detoxification
One way for general detoxification of the body is short term fasting (not a long-term starvation), that cleanses the digestive tract, relieves the airways, brightens up the mind and elevates mental consciousness. As the minimal duration of the ayurvedic fasting is considered a period of five days, enabling to purify the first nutritive tissue (rasa). If this is too demanding, then a one day Sunday fast, once in a week for a period of 1 to 3 months, is sufficient. For this it is best to drink only pure water, warmed up to the temperature of the human body.
A healthy diet, is by far the best way to prevent the accumulation of toxins in the body, in accordance with the individual constitutional type. Here are seven simple methods that show, how to bring relief to the body and enhance its natural detoxifying and purifying process:
